Computer Screen Froze

Restart your computer.

The first and easiest option is to try restarting your frozen computer. On a Windows device, press the Control, Alt, and Delete buttons simultaneously to open the Task Manager, then select “restart”. On a Mac, this can be done by pressing Command, Option, and Escape.

If your Windows computer is completely frozen and Ctrl + Alt + Del is not working, perform a hard reset by holding down the power button until the computer shuts down. Wait a few seconds before turning the computer back on. If the computer continues to freeze after a restart, try rebooting in safe mode by pressing the F8 key repeatedly

Every program in your computer requires a certain amount of both internal and external (hardware) resources to function. If multiple programs are running concurrently, your computer might not have enough memory or computing power to support all of them.

In this situation, you should right-click the Windows logo key and choose Task Manager. Under the Processes tab, find the program that is frozen and click End Task. It is recommended to run programs you need at a time.

Update All Device Drivers to the Newest

1) Right-click the Start button in Windows 10/8 or click Start in Windows 7. Then click on Device Manager (You may need to type Device Manager in the search box to access it).

   2) Open the category that you think contains the device you want to update its drivers.

   3) Right-click the hardware’s name or icon and choose Update driver (You may need to click Update Driver       Software in Windows 7).

Quit programs that might be causing your computer to freeze

When too many software programs are running on your computer at the same time, your operating system can get overwhelmed. This causes websites and applications to drag, freeze, or even crash.

How to force quit programs using Task Manager on Windows 10:

  1. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL at the same time.
  2. Select Task Manager.
  3. Click on More Details in the bottom-left corner.
  4. Under Processes, you should see a table with categories for Processor, Memory, Disk, Network and a corresponding list of applications.
  5. Double click the applications column. This will order applications from highest to lowest resource usage.
  6. Select End Task for applications that are consuming the most resources.
